Short Distance Non-perturbative Effects of Large Distance Modified Gravity
In a model of large distance modified gravity we compare the nonperturbative Schwarzschild solution of hep-th/0407049 to approximate solutions obtained previously. In the regions where there is a good qualitative agreement between the two, the nonperturbative solution yields effects that could have observational significance. These effects reduce, by a factor of a few, the predictions for the a...
متن کاملDiluting Cosmological Constant via Large Distance Modification of Gravity
We review a solution (Ref. [1]) of the cosmological constant problem in a braneworld model with infinite-volume extra dimensions. The solution is based on a nonlinear generally covariant theory of a metastable graviton that leads to a largedistance modification of gravity. From the extra-dimensional standpoint the problem is solved due to the fact that the four-dimensional vacuum energy curves ...
متن کاملSpontaneous Dimensional Reduction in Short-Distance Quantum Gravity?
Several lines of evidence suggest that quantum gravity at very short distances may behave effectively as a two-dimensional theory. I summarize these hints, and offer an additional argument based on the strong-coupling limit of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. The resulting scenario suggests a novel approach to quantum gravity at the Planck scale.
متن کاملProbing large distance higher dimensional gravity from lensing data
The modifications induced in the standard weak-lensing formula if Newtonian gravity differs from inverse square law at large distances are studied. The possibility of putting bounds on the mass of gravitons from lensing data is explored. A bound on graviton mass, esitmated to be about 100 Mpc is obtained from analysis of some recent data on gravitational lensing. Ever since the successful unifi...
متن کاملDistance Properties from Large Distance Behaviour
For slowly varying fields the vacuum functional of a quantum field theory may be expanded in terms of local functionals. This expansion satisfies its own form of the Schrödinger equation from which the expansion coefficents can be found. For scalar field theory in 1+1 dimensions we show that this approach correctly reproduces the short-distance properties as contained in the counter-terms. We a...
